I was putting a finish on a purple heart bridge. I like to use CA and polish it with sandpaper. It always words good. I did 2 coats, and 1 more should do it. So I filled a few spots that still had shiny spots with thin Starbond so it would be done for tomorrow. I turned to the other bench, and switched the top, from the one with a thin tube end, to a cap that doesn't have an opening. I hit the bottle somehow, and it splattered. mostly on the floor, but some on my old slippers that I use in the basement, and a little on the glass top on the table.

The stuff was giving off heat, and smoking! Never seen anything like that.

Whatever I had before wouldn't do that. The paper towel I wiped some up with was still warm a while later.

Pretty exciting for around here.

did the same thing, knocked it over on my table, burned my fingertips will trying to clean. Fortunately was only a third full so not too much came out. But you just gave me the idea of what to do with a purple heart neck blank that looked a little sketchy with a flaw running through it, thanks. [:Y:]

Similar mishap here about 15 years ago. ALWAYS, ALWAYS screw back the cap back on before doing anything else.

Can’t remember what I was working on in my garage /makeshift luthiaria but, having filled a 3 cc syringe from a 4 oz bottle of CA, I forgot to screw the cap back on the stock bottle.

Wearing my magnifying visor and totally concentrated on whatever I was working on, I started feeling a warmth where my abdomen was pressed against the workbench. I looked down to see liquid flowing across the bench to my T shirt from the tipped over (full) bottle of CA.

I whipped off the visor and pulled the T-shirt over my head, but wasn’t fast enough to keep the CA soaked part from catching (and sticking to) the hair on the back of my head.

Burning from my right foot drew my attention to where the CA had run off the bench onto the top of the stylish white socks and foam rubber Crocs sandals I was wearing. Steading myself with my right hand on the bench, I tried to reach down and strip off the sock and sandal, but was too late – the sock was stuck to the sandal and the sandal stuck to the floor.

Warmth from my hand led me to where the heel of my steadying right hand had landed at the edge of the puddle on the bench, also now stuck.

So there I was, right hand stuck to the bench and right foot stuck to the floor, and my wife out running errands. . . Spotting the bottle of CA dissolver on the overhead shelf, I reached, but no matter how I stretched for it , it stayed about 4 inches out of reach.

Fortunately I had at least thought to turn music on before starting. Unfortunately it was one song on repeat.

About a half hour later the garage door opener started grinding, my wife pulled in, and as I nonchalantly stood there with the T-shirt stuck to the back of my head, she took the forever she usually does to sort everything out, gather her purse and purchases and finally open her door and get out. As she walked past she glanced over at me, shook her head, and without a word walked on into the house.

After about 5 minutes, the door opened again, she stared at me for a while, then calmly said “so what did you do now”.

I only feel a little guilty laughing at that, RNRoberts. Glad you made it out, somehow!

One of my tests for whether to try something unorthodox in the shop is: How embarrassed will I be if/when the paramedics arrive?
